I read that this guy on Twitter had people take pictures of their streets and neighborhoods without cars and people around yesterday, as part of a project "Ecuadorfantasma"- Ecuador ghost.
A little more than 1,000 people were arrested across the country yesterday for violating the laws, including 30+ members of the Ecuadorian Armed Forces for drinking during the Ley Seca. No domestic flights were scheduled (except to and from Quito-Guayaquil with the express purpose of continuing to the Galápagos), and 14 international flights left and 9 arrived. Tourists or anyone else arriving in the airport were allowed to leave to return home, but they had to be accompanied by a salvoconductas- a special driver. Those who were planning on leaving the country had to be in the airport before 7am, when the Ley de Inmovilización took place- even if their flight didn't leave until 4pm!
Sorry for all of the probably uninteresting details- it's just that how often does an entire country shut down for a day without a natural disaster?
