Because today is the OFFICIAL holiday...

...I thought I'd present a brief picture account of my recent adventure that involved several things that are decidedly QUITO.

1. The Teleferiqo. It's closed in funicular-like chair that takes you to the top of the volcano Pichincha. It takes about 8 minutes to get to the top, and you're at 4,100 meters at the top. We had a great trip up, including seeing this insanely remote house.

2. Fog. It regularly decends upon Quito during the late afternoon/evening. Unfortunately, there was fog at the Pinchincha altitude where we were, limiting our views of Quito once we got to the top. The fog was actually pretty impressive though.

3. Women and heels. Women here are generally dressed more formally than most women in the US. They wear heels EVERYWHERE, and they're often part of a (usually pretty tacky, oddly colored) uniform suit. This woman was brave enough to wear heels WHILE HIKING A MOUNTAIN AT ALTITUDE. Bien hecho mujer, bien hecho.

Happy 6 de diciembre!
